The concept of the International Fur Design Competition [REMIX] was introduced in 2003 by the IFTF who recognized the importance of supporting the next generation of designers and furriers and wanted to do something to help them further.  The main aim of REMIX is to encourage, inspire and support young designers as they develop and explore their relationship with fur, as well as giving them an opportunity to showcase their innovative designs to an international audience.

Across the world, members of the fur trade work with design schools and universities to provide technical help and know-how as well as the raw materials to help young designers realize their fur designs. Invaluable contacts are established between the students and furriers during the training programmes and in some cases the designers go on to work with their mentor as interns or as the house designer.

Over 500 students from more than 22 countries have taken part in REMIX since 2003.  After months of preparation and hard work including national design competition, the final runway presentation takes place in Milan in March and features 35 designs received from up and coming fur design talent from the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.

For 2013 there is a brand new Menswear Category which will run alongside the existing Womenswear Category and the Pimp My Coat Award.  Designers can also qualify for the special Origin Assured Award.

There have been 11 winners since the competition started back in 2003. Hong Kong has won the competition twice followed by Italy. More female designers than male have won.
