Kastoria Summer School Participant 2016
My name is Pernille Caroline Moripen, I’m a Norwegian authorized furrier with my own fur studio and boutique, Moripen Buntmakeri, in the south of Norway.
I have been in the fur business since 2010 and I have loved every minute of it. I became a furrier because I’ve always loved fur and leather and I didn’t want to become a regular designer. Fur is more difficult but fun to work with. I can’t see myself not working with fur. I love it too much to stop.
In my studio I work with re-design, repairs, custom made pieces and tailor made furs/accessories.
My style is colourful, fun, crazy and different but since I do alot of re-design on vintage furs for customers, there’s not always time to do my crazy designs.
When I re-design furs I tailor make them or make the coats into a whole new thing, like a cushion, blanket or an accessorie.
Everything I sell in my boutique I’ve made myself, which is everything from baby booties and clothes to adult garments and accessories. All fox and mink I use is only Norwegian quality. I have two farms I’m buying from and I handpick every skin myself.
It’s very important for me to use Norwegian fur because then I can guarantee for the best animal welfare and I love to support Norwegian farmers.
My aspiration and dream is to make a really colourful and crazy collection which shows my creative and fun side and that people will love it. I want my business to grow and my dream is to make it big in the fur industry.
Meeting other people who’s in the industry, whether it is an designer, furrier, manufacturer, farmer etc is important to me because I want to learn everything about the business. Telling my customers everything they want and need to know about the fur chain.
I’ve visited Saga Furs and Kopenhagen Fur for a week at each company and I loved it. They made me come out of my comfort zone and realized that I can combine fur with everything. They also made me realize that you can do anything with fur. I’ve worked a week at a Dutch mink farm in the puppy season. They teached me alot I didnt knew about farming. I loved every second of it.
I have to say that one of my big time dream job is to work at Saga Furs as a furrier.
